You’ve all faced it one time. You install a smashing widget app for your Android, set it on the home screen and stay in awe! Then after some time you reboot (just for sakes) and poof!, the widgets have disappeared from your home screen. Any effort to place it back again isn’t successful, except for a complete reinstall. What a pain! Well the remedy isn’t nearly as bad, read on.

Well the main cause of this issue is because of the feature that allows installing apps on to the SD directly, a feature found in Froyo (Android 2.2) and upwards. If a widget is installed on a SD card, it will be not loaded again on the next reboot.

So a rather simple workaround is to place the concerned app in the Phone Memory, using the following steps:

Go to Settings > Applications

Select Manage applications

Select the concerned app (the widget app.) Here we’ve selected Astrid Tasks app.

Click on the Move to Phone button

That’s it

If it again happens, just reinstall the app once and you will be good to go on forever.

This does happen because the apps are installed onto the SD card directly or either by using an app like App2SD.

Copy the following code to a new HTML/javascript gadget in layout section.

Fancy Google’s live search box (the one where results suggestions appear below the textbox)? Now you can have the very same effect on your own blog. sikbox is a new [...]

Fancy Google’s live search box (the one where results suggestions appear below the textbox)? Now you can have the very same effect on your own blog. sikbox is a new service that allows you to add a similar live search box to your blog or website and it supports blogger, wordpress, joomla, drupal and pretty much any other type of a website.

Its very easy to add this search box to your site. In fact if you don’t prefer to install it directly and want to test it, just go to their site sikbox.com and enter your blog’s address. There is a live preview search box, using which you can test the results. A live preview of makeuseof.com yielded the following results:

To add the widget to your blog just go to http://sikbox.com/ and fill in the preview form. Then just click on the ‘Get the Code’ button. Now you will be asked for your name and email. Fill it up and click on the ‘Customize and Generate Code’ button. Now you can customize the search-box (actually you customize how the results appear) and then select the code generated below and add it to your blog.

Advantages:

Free and fast

Ease of use, no complexity

Easy to install and use

No programming required

Extremely fast and lightweight

Fully customizable via skins or CSS

Image search support

Disadvantage:

The only disadvantage that I found was that for the search results to appear properly, your site must be indexed by Yahoo. This is because the widget uses Yahoo API to get the results. Otherwise its a great plugin

You can try it out by visiting sikbox.com
