When considering all the ways to get broadband internet access, a satellite service is often one that is ignored. Although many people choose other, more conventional methods of getting online, satellite internet access can be a great option for some consumers. Those who live in rural locations, for example, often find satellite internet provision works out well for them. When it comes to deciding how to go about getting online, there’s a case to be made for satellite internet being one of the best methods.Satellite internet works as you might expect: you get an internet connection with a number of satellite systems, such as geostationary satellites that enable access all over the world. Rather than use a phone line, people opting for this way of going online install two-way satellite dishes. These allow both the uploading and downloading of data from the internet at a speed which is typically greater than it would be using a normal modem. It is not, however, as fast as the speeds you would get with a cable system.

Satellite access hasn’t always had the best reputation, mainly thanks to its chequered history in terms of offering broadband internet. In the past, users could download at broadband speed using a one-way satellite system but couldn’t upload data at anywhere near an acceptable level, especially compared with what conventional two-way internet systems can provide today. These problems have been all but eliminated in the 21st century and today providers in countries from the U.S. to India specialise in offering affordable broadband operating from a satellite access system.

While you may pay a little more for satellite internet access compared to a system such as cable, there are advantages inherent in it that can offset these issues. The major appeal of satellite internet is for consumers who live in an area that’s not particularly well covered by other kinds of internet provision. If you live in the countryside, especially in a country such as India, you may well find your broadband internet coverage limited. Not all cable or DSL providers will offer services that cover your place. Your first choice in these situations may well be to use satellite internet, since this kind of system could be the only one capable of giving you the coverage and speed you need.

Satellite internet can offer consumers certain other advantages. For example, the proliferation of satellites around the globe means that many countries and regions can enjoy previously unobtainable internet access. It’s not hard to get set up on satellite internet after you contact a company that offers the service. Once you’re up and running you will find it’s fairly easy to use. Since satellite internet isn’t vulnerable to disruptions in the way that many other internet services are, consumers using it will find they can surf the net without any problems.

In India, several companies offer satellite internet and have acquired a solid reputation for providing a very good level of service. Hughes Communication Ltd, for example, is an American company that works in India and provides multiple types of broadband internet services. Another provider, Tempest Telecom, specialises in portable satellite services, with four different options to suit the consumer’s needs. With companies such as these reaching out to consumers, it’s easy to see why satellite internet access is an increasingly popular option in certain parts of the world.

Despite an incredible 37 million iPhones, 15 million iPads and 5.2 million Macs sold in the most recent financial quarter, Apple can’t afford to rest on its laurels. The iPhone [...]

Despite an incredible 37 million iPhones, 15 million iPads and 5.2 million Macs sold in the most recent financial quarter, Apple can’t afford to rest on its laurels. The iPhone 4S contributed the lion’s share of astounding Apple’s $13.1 billion quarterly profits, and is by far the company’s most important product. Together, the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S account for the majority of Apple’s sales, and having massively exceeded the market’s expectations this time around, a successful iPhone 5 launch is more critical than ever. The iPhone 5 is slated to appear sometime in 2012, and rumours about the launch date and the phone’s features already abound. Unlike the incremental improvements that the iPhone 4S was heavily criticised for, the iPhone 5 must be a substantial leap in terms of features, capabilities and performance if Apple is to maintain its enviable position as the world’s leading smartphone maker. It’s widely assumed the iPhone 5 will be announced in October which is consistent with the 4S launch date, and it’s evident from Apple’s latest financials that a new iPhone combined with the holiday season is a surefire hit.

Critical iPhone 5 Improvements

A Completely New Design
The iPhone 4S didn’t provide compelling enough reasons to persuade existing iPhone 4 owners to upgrade. If Apple sticks to its established pattern of major releases followed by relatively minor updates, the iPhone 5 should be radically overhauled both internally and externally, using even higher quality materials and improved aesthetics.

Arguably, Apple could retain the same physical design for a while longer, as there’s really not much to criticise about the current form factor – but a few changes will help fickle consumers to identify the new model as a proper, all-out refresh. A new design may also help to mitigate the well publicised Antennagate reception issues that have haunted Apple ever since the iPhone 4. Apple would like to put those issues to bed conclusively.

Considering Apple’s penchant to make its devices ever-slimmer, it wouldn’t come as a major surprise if the iPhone 5 lost a few pounds here and there. Batteries occupy most of the space inside smartphones but technical advances (Apple invests considerable sums in battery technology research) will make such improvements a real possibility.

A Larger Display: 4-inches
As far as smartphones are concerned bigger is definitely better, which is why most top-end Android devices such as the Sony Xperia S and the forthcoming Samsung Galaxy SIII are equipped with at least 4.3-inch touch screens. The iPhone 5 will retain the superb 960 x 640 resolution Retina Display, but may benefit from a larger 4-inch+ screen that compares more favourably with its peers. Unfortunately, this will reduce its 326 PPI pixel density, and Apple never compromises on what it sees as fundamental design principles.

More Brawn: Next-Gen A6 Chip and PowerVR Graphics

A new, more powerful chip is certain to appear in the next iPhone – probably the custom A6 CPU, which is considerably more powerful than the A5 model found in the 4S; Apple will combine this with the 2-core or, more likely, the 4-core variant of the PowerVR Series 6 GPU — nicknamed Rogue — made by Imagination (in which Apple acquired a 9.5% stake in 2009).

The new PowerVR graphics chip will give the iPhone 5 a serious performance boost, as it claims to provide around 20 times the graphical power of the current generation. Now that the iPhone is a major handheld gaming platform rivaling Sony and Nintendo, more advanced graphics will be extremely important.

Wireless Payments: Near Field Communications (NFC)
In recent years, Apple has filed several patents in this field and appears to have strong interest in the technology. NFC essentially turns a mobile phone into a credit card, allowing cashless payments to be made by waving the phone against an electronic reader. However, rivals such as Nokia and Samsung have already beaten Apple to market; several NFC-capable phones are available now and dozens of new models expected in 2012.

Commercial NFC payment services have the potential to revolutionise how we pay for goods, and the technology will be included in the majority of future smartphones. Mobile network operators such as Verizon in the US consider NFC a critical feature (understandably, as they will make a cut on the transactions), so there is substantial pressure on device makers to include it. Apple will inevitably jump on the NFC bandwagon before long, but it would be a worthy and welcome addition to the iPhone 5.

You cannot simply keep your online presence at stake. Now, just having a website is not the end of the task, rather it is the first step toward attaining a unique online identity. You need to make sure that your website is available 24*7 and this is where the concept of web hosting comes into play. Choosing a web hosting company is as much critical to the future of your company as getting qualified candidates on-board but sadly enough most of the companies tend to ignore this reality. But ignorance is not a bliss and if you tend to follow this trend, your online presence will have its consequences that you will definitely like to face. Here in this article, we will try to make you see the probable outcome of choosing an unreliable web hosting service:

Technical Department without any Technical Knowledge
One of the unique traits of an unreliable web hosting company is a technical team that do not have any technical knowledge. Since you are paying less for getting your website hosted, you cannot expect to get help from a technical support staff who is really knowledgeable. The equation is simple, if you pay peanuts, you will get monkeys. It is irritating and sometimes, frustrating to the end, when you find that the person who is supposed to help you to get out of trouble is as much confused about the issue as you are. The outcome, your website will be struck in a limbo unless and until a senior intervenes. You will definitely not like this thing right? So, better move to some reliable hosting companies like Godaddy, UK2, Netfirms etc.

Downtime
This is another critical issue that you can only ignore at your own risk. If your website remains down all the time, you might end up losing some potential customers. Though all web hosting companies promise to maintain 99.99% up-time few of them manage to deliver when it comes to real performance. So, you need to keep a close eye on yourwebsite’s performance and if you find that the down-up is taking a toll on your website’s performance, you should better rid of it and look for some other hosting providers. However, if you budget is small, you do not have to fear as such as there are some awesome discount coupons available. You just need to find out one that suits your budget.

Bandwidth Limit
Bandwidth limit is intrinsically related to how much traffic your website draws. If you website is new around web, bandwidth limit will not have any problem for but if your website draws a considerable number of visitors, you need to make sure that your web hosting company is offering sufficient bandwidth limit otherwise, your website is sure toface occasional outrage, which is certainly not a good sign. So, ask your hosting company how much bandwidth you are entitled to and if you find it really small, it is better to move towards greener pasture.

Root Access
Make sure you have root access of your website. Though most of the web hosting companies provide root access, there are some who think it is smart not to provide any such feature by default to general webmasters. So, make a point that you have the root access of your website otherwise, you will not be able to make necessary changes in it to speed up website or do other such things to give boost to your online visibility.

The last few decades have seen major advancements in PC products and as a result, each year, we see the release of new, more advanced PC products than the year before. This has led to a major following of technology lovers, a group that waits patiently while they anticipate the next ‘big” thing in the computer industry. And 2011 has had no shortage of “big” things. In fact, in 2011 we have seen software, computer, hardware, and technology companies go above and beyond anything we likely expected at the end of 2010. So whether your thing is software, graphics, gaming, or communicating you will likely find a product that you must-have that was released in 2011. A few in particular have really stood out in the computer and technology industry, and if you don’t know about them already, you may find yourself rushing to the nearest technology store after you do.

The 3-D Laptop

One of the most amazing products introduced in 2011, and one that we should have expected considering we have already seen 3-D televisions, is the 3-D laptop computer. And who else other than Sony would be expected to produce such an amazing machine? Users who choose any of the Sony F Series laptops have the option of having 3-D graphics installed on it, but while this is a great option to have 3-D computer graphics are not necessarily for everyone. Although quite a few technology buffs may initially like the idea of the laptops 3-D graphics, this is technology that will likely be particularly enjoyed by gamers.

The HP Web OS Tablet

Tablet computers have been being released left and right since Apple introduced its I-Pad, and by all different companies these days. But aside from the technology produced by Apple, computer technology doesn’t get much better than when it comes from HP. And this year what HP gave its fans was the HP Web OS based, touch screen, tablet computer. The HPTouchPad tablet works much like other tablets, but with the added bonus of being equipped with the best of HP technology, which is why the HP TouchPad is competing so well with other popular tablet computers.

The Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse

Computer mouse have come a long way since we saw the first one, that went with the first commercially available computer, and the Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse is evidence of just how far computer companies are willing to go when it comes to innovating something as simple as the mouse. Not only is this mouse different because it is more ergonomic and easy to use, but it is also super portable because it can be folded up to travel with the user. When the user is ready to use their Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse, they simply unfold it and use as they would any other mouse.

Surely these are not the only great innovations released in 2011, but a few of the favorites that you may want to get your hands on too. But whatever you do, be sure to watch for 2012′s biggest innovations in the computer industry too.

As one of the most popular public web forums of our time, Twitter is an excellent way to share information and start conversations. It can also be used to substantially increase organic traffic to a website, if you know what you’re doing. Here are five methods for boosting web traffic with Twitter that are easy to carry out.

Know Your Audience, and Follow Them

Having a million readers who are following you just because you followed them doesn’t really help you out in the long run. 1,000 dedicated fans who actively look for your posts in their Twitter stream are better than 100 times that amount of followers who ignore you. Zero in on a core demographic that’s actually interested in what you have to say, and gear your posts towards them.

Ditch The Spam

While we’re all probably sick of hearing it, content is still king. Quality content is the type of information you should be sharing with your readers. Spamming them with links to your business site or an affiliate sales landing page isn’t really quality. Post links to helpful resources that will benefit your users. In other words, give without expecting something in return.

Pick A Sensible Username

If you’re using your Twitter account to drive traffic to your website, using your given name may not be the best route to take. Let’s say you run a small, local plumbing service. Rather than using, say, “JohnSmith72”, try “DrainMaster” or something else related to your actual business. If you’re a private consultant and your name is your brand identity, a given name is fine.

Find A Good Profile Picture

A little visual color can go a long way towards drawing people in and getting them to pay attention to your post. A generic logo doesn’t really do it for most people. They see business logos all the time on the web. Use your real picture for your profile avatar.

Leverage Twitter Search

Posting relevant information on a hot trending topic is a surefire way to increase your following and boost traffic. You can use Twitter Search to see what’s popular at the moment and use the results to draw in more page views by posting on current topics that people are interested in.

Parting Shot

The nice thing about using Twitter to raise your website’s profile online is that it doesn’t need a large input of time or effort. Work smarter rather than harder when using your Twitter influence to redirect traffic to your blog or website. It’s not rocket science, it just requires that you employ a consistent approach day in and day out when it comes to increasing page views with your tweets.

It’s almost 2012, and everybody is in a results-of-the-year rush now. Nevermind all the events and discoveries of 2011 but let’s face it: the shock of Steve Jobs’ sudden death right when he seemed to have overcome his fatal illness is still makes all of us musing over “what-if” and “what-now”. Now many experts try to predict the future for his company and especially the “Apple vs. Windows” game saying things like neither of these companies will introduce some new major services and products, since there’s lot of space for improvement of existing ones… are any of these predictions make sense? Let’s get to the point.

At the time of Jobs’ death, Apple was one of the most valuable companies in the world, and it still is. Newest iPhone, called 4S, is breaking every record in sales and ringing big profit. It’s interesting to know that Jobs was not involved as much in the development of iPhone 4S, because he was interested in next generation of this phone which is expected to be a major revision. This actually shows Jobs’ dedication to Apple and his plan on securing the right path for Apple to follow after he’s gone.

Experts usually tend to compare current Apple’s situation with Microsoft’s situation three years ago, when Bill Gates resigned, even thought there are some very strong differences. Apple is on it’s all time high, while Microsoft was at that time recovering from bad publicity which Windows Vista created.

That year was actually the turning point for these two giants. Microsoft was trying to develop new services and new Windows OS will tried to be a dignified successor of praised Windows XP. At that time Apple was living the success of iPhone and was working on new generation of it’s products. Three years later, Apple lost its creator and one of the most innovative people of today’s age. But Steve Jobs made sure he chooses someone who will share his passion and dedication, so Apple keeps achieving success.

via Blue Genie Tech

Current situation is that Apple is the innovator which sets standards for others to achieve, including Microsoft. As experts predict, the balance between these two companies should remain the same in years to come. Microsoft is trying to regain the market share Windows operating systems used to have and it is currently developing a new version which is scheduled to be released sometime next year. On the other hand, they are trying to come up with new services and improve existing ones, but it doesn’t have as much impact as Microsoft hoped.

Apple is also trying to improve its operating system which is actually a backbone of Macintosh computers which are the base of this company. But Apple has also some markets where it actually dominates and this is the market of mobile devices like phones and tablet computers (iPhone and iPad). These are the products which brought huge success to Apple and the chance to develop new services. One of the newest services recently revealed are so-called “cloud services”, which are now implemented into Macs and mobile devices. Microsoft offered cloud services some time ago, but actually never achieved success like iCloud did. According to newest information, Microsoft is once again trying to improve cloud services and to implement them into Windows 8, which is actually a proof of Apple’s ability to design and bring new services much more successfully.

Blogging has become hugely popular in the last few years and it’s not difficult to see why, thanks to a wealth of devices that allow you to produce content, both [...]

Blogging has become hugely popular in the last few years and it’s not difficult to see why, thanks to a wealth of devices that allow you to produce content, both at home and on the go. Add to that the increasing use of mobile broadband and mobile gadgets, plus software that’s really user-friendly and you’ve got a sure- fire recipe for blogging success.

And, since the launch of tablet computers with Apple leading the way with its iPad, there’s now an even better option for blogging on the go. However, is a tablet as well suited for blogging purposes as other devices that allow you to make posts whenever you want? Actually yes, because the tablet is altogether a more convenient proposition than many smartphones on the market.

The reason for this is pretty simple – with a tablet you get much more screen real estate that’ll allow you to make blog posts without having to deal with fiddly keyboards and the small screens found on many handsets. Of course, the smartphone is perfect for something like Twitter because that only needs you to type one line of text.

But with blogging there is often a need to produce lengthier posts, as well as adding more extensive image and video content too. While this is still possible on a variety of mobile handsets, the tablet computer gives you that much more freedom to get the job done correctly and efficiently.

Why not a laptop?

Some people are still of the persuasion that a laptop, or its smaller counterpart the netbook, can get a blogging job done best of all and in many cases that might well be the case. After all, a laptop usually has a collection of software that gives you that much more flexibility when it comes to getting work done.

But let’s not forget that tablets now come with many options on the app front, and all that means you’ll still be able to find slimmed down software tools to get the job done too. What’s more, there’s no doubt that kitting yourself out with a tablet, as opposed to the generally bulkier laptop and netbooks out there on the market, will present you with a much more portable proposition.

Wordpress App for iPad

Adding to the appeal of a tablet for blogging is the fact that they can all connect to the internet with ease, either by wireless or 3G mobile broadband. Some models allow you to do both, which of course means that you’ll be able to make posts pretty much everywhere you go, just as long as you can get a connection that is.

Then there’s the issue of battery life, which on something like an Apple iPad is really impressive. If you need to make posts when you’re out in the field and don’t have sufficient battery power then you’re going to be scuppered, which can often be the case with less better performing laptops. So, in that and many other respects, you’re onto a winner with a tablet when it comes to staying online and keeping your blogging activities alive.

Cross-promotion of your blog and its individual posts is essential to helping drive traffic to your site and attracting more readers and subscribers. Sharing your latest posts on Facebook, Twitter and your other social-networking profiles is one way to accomplish this. However, making it easy for your readers to also share your blog and its content will help to increase awareness.

There are several handy WordPress plugins that offer sharing buttons both within your posts and on your blog for a lot of social-networking sites. Here are our top 5:

Bookmarkify

This popular plugin includes sharing buttons for over 50 popular social-networking sites and allows you to add a button for readers to share information by e-mail. You can choose buttons for all the sites available or customize it to share with only those sites you like. Buttons can be included within individual blog posts or on the sidebar. You can use the plugin with WordPress or use the html code for any other site.

Add This

Add This provides sharing access to 330 of the “most popular” social-networking sites through a small sidebar widget with one master button. You can also sign up for a free account to get feedback on how your visitors are sharing your content and find what social-networking sites are getting the most activity. You can then tailor your marketing efforts.

Dandy ID Services

Share your presence on 300+ social-networking sites (you have profiles on all of them, right?) with your blog so that readers can connect with you. This plugin allows readers to connect with your social profiles, rather than sharing through those sites. It also allows you to quickly share your content through those profiles. You choose simple text links or icons, and choose the sites you want to display, in a sidebar widget.

Sociable

Get a line of cool icons with links for readers to share your blog posts on their social-networking sites. You can also set up the buttons to share pages on your blog or your RSS feed.

Bookmark Me

This handy plugin allows your readers to share content through social-networking sites that are not in English. It currently includes Russian, Arabic, Italian, French, German, Spanish, Slavic, Dutch and Swedish sites.

There are dozens more plugins that allow you and your readers to share your content through social-networking sites. What are some of your favorites? Tell us about them in the comments!

High speed internet is practically a birthright these days. The question is, is your internet as fast as it could be? We all know the problems that country dwellers have when trying to get the broadband speeds advertised on their packages – so we’ll ignore that for now and concentrate instead on the proliferation of package choices.

The easiest way to do that is by comparing some of the package types offered by major internet providers. AT&T, Comcast, Verizon and Charter all offer a range of agile download speeds for home internet use – they come in all sorts of speed brackets, with all kinds of price tags attached.

Time Warner, for example, offers download speeds (average speeds of course, be aware with any provider that the big figure you see on the adverts is an optimum scenario you are never likely to reach) ranging from 10 MBps to 50 MBps – while the FiOS system run by Verizon can deliver up to 150 MBps of download speeds. The bigger the package, the more add-ons you tend to get, too – like the top range Time Warner internet packages, which allow you to connect up to five wireless devices without an extra fee.

The issue of multiple connectivity – which is one of the reasons why we want high-speed internet in the first place – is something of a bugbear. Internet providers have yet to supply signals that allow limitless numbers of mobile devices to connect – which is ludicrous, when you think about it. You’re paying for the signal, after all, and the equipment used to distribute that signal. So putting a cap on the number of devices you can use in your own home to consume it smacks of nothing other than greed.

Still, there you go – and from internet providers to internet providers you’ll never find one that doesn’t take the opportunity to levy an extra charge where it thinks it can get away with it. So you might as well just be grateful that you can (if you live in a decent signal area, anyway) get a signal that provides a genuinely fast connection.

So – what’s the point of all this speed? Take a look at the descriptions next to the fastest packages on the internet providers’ websites and you’ll work it out easily enough. Huge speeds (above 20 MBps, say) are useful for running maximum numbers of multiple devices, and for downloading movies and music while continuing to use your connection for other things. If all you ever do is surf and send email, then even 2 MBps will be more than enough.

The real point of the insanely fast speeds now possible on home internet connections is this: you can start living online. You can shop, work and play there – often at the same time from all over your house – without experiencing lags, delays or worrying breaches in your security. In other words: the internet has finally come of age. The speed you need to unlock its real potential has just landed, in the form of hundreds of battling packages from the top internet providers in the country. Take your pick – wisely – and start enjoying the net as it was meant to be enjoyed.

We had earlier pointed out how CCleaner is a great tool, if you want to increase the speed of your system in a short time. Well here’s another tool that’ll help you to increase your PC’s speed even more, yet even quicker. Here’s MyDefrag.

First things first.

What’s Defragmenting?

Defragmenting is the process of reducing the fragmentation of files in your hard disk. Wait what? The thing is as you go on storing files in your computer, the OS allocates continuous memory wherever possible. If not then the files are divided (or more appropriately fragmented) and placed in different memory locations. This increases the access time for the files and slows down your PC.

To get a clearer idea, just follow the image to the right. (Image Credit: Wikipedia)

Also read: Defraggler- Piecing Together the Puzzle of your Hard Drive

So MyDefrag. Here are some of its features:

Very Simple

Very Fast. (gotta say it again and again!)

Has many options, from quick defrag to full defrag.

Optimizes your disk as well

You have different options for data and system disks, for defragmenting only or defragment and optimize and even for normal disks and flash disks (although I’d not vouch too much for that!)

I know no ones going to do it daily or even weekly or for that matter monthly! But it is recommended that you at least defragment your disk every once in 6 months. And this is the perfect tool, in my opinion.

The only con that I have found is that, it hasn’t been updated or given any new features. But hey they say ‘don’t repair, what ain’t broken!’

Also The default installer comes with a set of easy to use scripts for end-users, a scripting engine for demanding users, a screensaver, and a combined Windows plus command line version. A little too much.

Just try it out and let me know your comments.

Aside from being popular, one-word sites (duh!), they have one thing in common: they’re all FREE.

And we all love freebies, right?

But did you know that there are other smaller niche sites that offer interesting stuff as well? And what’s more, most of them are 100% free. Okay, so not all of them are totally free; and some of those juicier features require a small fee, but who cares? There’s still something free in there; and by golly, we are going to search for them until we turn blue (hopefully it wouldn’t take that long) and find what we’re looking for.

Want to know what sites are worth looking at? Here are the top seven on our list:

What we’re talking about here are free icons for your website; and if you like these kinds of things, then go to IconWanted.com. This is the world’s first search engine that looks for great icons you can put on your site, and currently, they have around 14,000 icons for FREE. Yes, folks, they’re free—and way, way, much better than watching Mariah Carey act in Glitter, doesn’t it?

4G is the fourth generation of cellular communications and is the next step in cell phone technology after 3G. Today, most companies function off of “advanced” 3G networks for their so-called 4G. It can be argued that what many service providers offer the public is, in fact, “pre-4G” or “3.5G” or “3.9G”. However, the plan for most cell companies is to be able to upgrade their systems to complete 4G standards within the coming years.

4G promises two things: that the data speeds of the cell phones will be much faster (up to 10 times faster than 3G), and that areas not previously serviced will be able to have decent phone and data coverage in their areas. At this point in time, internet providers in my area are limited, and the advancement of 4G technology may soon bring broadband speeds to this region via mobile networks.

What Is True 4G?

According to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), there are very high-speed requirements for truly 4G services. High mobility communication (i.e. from a moving car or train) should have a high-end speed of 100 Mbps. Low-mobility and stationary use should have high-end speeds of 1 Gbps. Yes, 1 gigabit per second! Speeds this high are not even attainable for most home users.

There are two formats the ITU designates as true 4G:LTE Advanced and WiMAX2. While neither of these are currently readily available on the market, internet providers in my area and around the nation offer their predecessors LTE and WiMAX (along with HSPA+).

Breaking Down the 3 Networks

HSPA+

HSPA+ is an update to its predecessor, HSPA. While HSPA+ offers faster speeds than previously available on the HSPA network, it uses the same technology. While fast, HSPA+ cannot be upgraded to meet IMT-Advanced’s requirements for true 4G. What this means is that actual 4G speeds cannot be accomplished with HSPA+.T-Mobile and AT&T’s current 4G utilizes the HSPA+ network. AT&T has plans in place to rollout the use of LTE networks (which are upgradable to 4G standards) for its future 4G service.

LTE

Long Term Evolution, or LTE, is close to 4G, but the technology does not completely encompass all requirements. However, when many people think about 4G, LTE comes to mind. It is the system that is being used by Verizon. As mentioned, AT&T also has plans to rollout widespread use of the LTE network for their 4G services. Also, many of the European countries use LTE because it is upgradable to LTE advanced. Carriers like the idea of LTE because once LTE Advanced becomes available it will be easy to upgrade. AT&T and Verizon plan to have complete LTE technology in place by 2013.

WiMAX

WiMAX is the technology that is being used by Nextel, Sprint, and Clearwire in the US. In Canada, WiMAX is also the most favorite surface. Sprint’s 4G network includes Clearwire4G data network in combination with Sprint’s 3G voice network. While technically not completely for 4G, Sprint is definitely the closest model for a 4G network.

4G is the next biggest thing for cell phone technology, because it has the capability to be extremely fast and possibly make home broadband obsolete. However, true 4G is still a ways off. When all is said and done, 4G should be able to deliver speeds of 1 Gbps in the home and 100 Mbps on a mobile level. When and if these speeds ever come to fruition, it’ll make today’s data speeds seem like yesterday’s dial-up.
