FaceBook as we have known, has gone from one strength to another, even as far as challenging Google’s supremacy on the internet. We do access FaceBook daily and are either wowed or pretty vocal about the good and the bad stuff over there. However there have been some features that turned out to be massive failures. Here’s an infographic to show you the bad more in detail.

10 Tips for your Perfect Social Profile Picture

Your social profile these days can be considered a passport to your professional lives as well. With the number of companies taking to social media for marketing, they don’t want employees who lack in this aspect. And if not the most, then one very important aspect of your social profile is your Display Picture (DP) or Profile Picture.

Selecting the right profile picture would certainly do you a world of good. If done the right way, it instantly creates a connection. And as they say, ‘First impression is the last impression,’ you’d want to make it count.

Here are 10 tips to improve your choice:

Use your-own picture. Photo’s with your spouse/pet/best friend can be shared separately for Pete’s sake!
Use close-up shots, so even small thumbnails can be easily recognizable.
Try as much to use bright colors like white in your picture, as they seem pleasant. However take care not to use too many loud colors.
Try to put up an image in which your face is as pleasant can be. There’s the instant connection for you.
Yes, you may Photoshop your picture to remove the odd pimple or scar. Just don’t overdo it.
Don’t add ridiculous effects on your picture (like cartoonized, magazine cover.) Those are intended for passing time, and let it be that way.
If you are cropping an image having many members, crop it in a way so that any other person in the original image won’t be visible.
Keep updating your image. Don’t use one that was taken years back!
Try to keep away negative objects (like a beer bottle) away from your display picture.
Finally before uploading an image, please ask some close to you, ‘Do I look good in this pic?’

How to Delete All Facebook Notification Mails Quickly [GMail]

Facebook is awesome. That’s to be engraved in stone! Nevertheless all good things got a bad side to it. All the friend requests, messages, group posting etc. that happen at your profile, queue up as notifications at your Facebook page. Additionally if you have enabled email alerts, things tend to get a little out of hand when you have many notifications. So how to manage them easily? Here’s how.

Personally I don’t read these Facebook notification mails. I log in to my Facebook, check notifications there and if something is missing (like a deleted post or multiple tagged photos,) I come back to GMail.

So in most cases I just need to delete these mails. The method is rather easy. In the search box just type the following:

facebookmail.com label:unread

Now press enter. You’ll see all your unread Facebook mails over there. Scan through if you want.

To delete it just select the box at the top (the one next to Archive button.) This selects all you mails on the page (and even gives you an option to delete further mails)

Click the delete button. That’s it!

How to Delete a Facebook Group?

Facebook Groups is possibly, one of the best features of Facebook. It allows people who aren’t friends but share a common interest to share information as well as interact with each other. Also put in types of restrictions like Open, Closed and Secret and you have a winner. I’m sure you all might have created a group. Now comes the deleting part, how to do it!? Read on.

Although Facebook provides an easy way to create a group, the method to delete it is a little stupid in my opinion. The instructions itself are buried deep.

Here’s how to delete a Facebook group:

First of all, to delete a group you need to be its first admin. If you’re the person who created a group, you are the admin by default.
Go to the group and in the member’s box (towards the right side of the group page), click on ‘See All‘
The first name you’ll see, will be is your own. Do not do anything to it (as of yet.)
Below your name you will see the names of members of the group. They have a “Make Admin” button next to them and right next to it you will see a ‘x‘ mark. Click on it and confirm you want to remove the member.
Remove each member in the similar way.
Last step, remove yourself from the group. That’s it.

Over the next few days, Facebook will automatically remove the group as it won’t have any members. This method may be lengthy for groups having many members, but unfortunately this is the only method.

Get the Old FaceBook Chat back (FireFox, Chrome & Opera)

Recently Facebook launched a whole new chatting system which, well, plainly sucked. No longer were friends shown in groups according to lists you made but also only those friends were shown who you used to contact the most. Whether they were online or not! Although many users have been protesting this move, Facebook being Facebook has turned a blind eye, However its pretty simple to get back to the old chatting system, here’s how.

The solution is pretty easy. Its done using an add-on called Facebook Chat Sidebar Disabler. Depending on your browser follow the steps:

FireFox:

FireFox users just go here and download the add-on. If it does say ‘This add-on has not been reviewed by Mozilla ‘ just click on it and click again on the Add to FireFox button. That’s it, restart it and you are good to go.

Chrome:

For Google Chrome users, download this app and just refresh the Facebook page (by pressing F5) and your done.

Opera:

Opera users need to download this add-on. And that’s it!

Using this method, although you will get the interface of the old chat back, still the underling chat system would be that of the new one. So expect some of those stupid problems to last.

Chat in Facebook Right From your Desktop

Have you ever tried chatting using the Facebook chat app, that loads up in the toolbar at the bottom of the site? Rather strenuous I’d say! One reason is its small tiny window, second it’s the time that it takes to load (with the slow connection that I have, its even worse!) and how much it increases my browser’s load! So here’s is a desktop app called FBM, that run’s on Adobe Air.

FBM is cross platform it will run on Windows (xp, Vista, Win7), Mac OSX, Linux. However to chat with your friend you must have them download and install the application on their PC’s as well. Well, that’s not good!

The app also includes chat rooms and basically a simple facebook interface through a desktop client.

Features:

Cross-Platform: Supports Windows, Mac OSX and Linux
Supports different visibility mode: Public, Only friends or invisible
Update your FB status via FBM
Photo Album Viewer: View your friends photos right from your desktop.
